Guide to Indian Coriander Seed Grades for Export: Eagle, Badami, Scooter & Parrot

Unlike chilli or turmeric, Indian coriander is not graded on a single chemical specification — buyers instead work primarily off seed size and colour, using long-established Indian trade grade names. Here is how five of the most widely exported grades compare.

Eagle — Standard Grade

• Colour: Light brownish
• Volatile oil: 0.3–0.5%
• Best suited for: General-purpose spice blends and powder where seed size is not the primary specification.

Badami — Standard Grade

• Colour: Brownish
• Volatile oil: 0.3–0.5%
• Best suited for: The same broad applications as Eagle grade, widely available and consistently traded.

Scooter — Standard Grade

• Colour: Brownish
• Volatile oil: 0.3–0.5%
• Best suited for: General export and domestic use, comparable in profile to Eagle and Badami.

Single Parrot — Bold Grade

• Colour: Bright greenish
• Volatile oil: 0.3–0.5%
• Best suited for: Whole-seed retail packing and applications where larger, more uniform seeds are valued.

Double Parrot — Boldest Grade

• Colour: Greenish
• Volatile oil: 0.3–0.5%
• Best suited for: Premium whole-seed applications where the boldest, most visually uniform seed is required.

Choosing the Right Grade
